What Makes Viator Great (With Tips!)
- First, many local tour vendors participate with Viator, so you can always find a great selection of tours and excursions
- You can read reviews from past attendees of tours!
- The reviews are verified from people who actually went on the tour, as they are the only past customers receive the code to write a review. (So, vendors can’t send a review code to all their friends… at least at no cost)
- You can often find discounts – like this one!
- Viator tours are usually a fraction of the price of shore excursions sponsored by cruise ships (Keep in mind: Cruise ships vet their vendors, and most lines like Virgin Voyages offer a guarantee for you to get back to the ship if on one of their sponsored tours)
- You can filter by location, duration of tour, price, rating, language, private vs public – and more! [Tip: When traveling, I’ll usually look at what’s offered in the location with four stars or higher and under $100-200.]
- Check the cancellation terms for what you book but most bookings allow you to cancel up to 24-48 hours before the tour. It’s a great perk, as travel plans often change
- Some vendors that specialize in cruise ship excursions even offer a guarantee: you’ll only be charged if your ship docks at the port—so you won’t have to worry about last-minute changes due to weather or wind.
